I was one of the lucky ones to see this at an important time in my life. The words, the music, the guy training on the beach...it as the perfect motivational video; however i wanted to find out more. Originally i thought the American Football guy in the video was the one doing the voice over but i was wrong. Then, i came across the original video from where the speech was from. Even if you have just watched the first video in this blog, i suggest watching this one as well. It doesn't matter how many times you hear the words from this guy because they will always have some kind of positive effect.
The guy's name is Eric Thomas:
When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, then you will be successful. What an amazing quote. Yes, he makes it sound great and dramatic but if you really think about it, it's so true. We've all heard of the saying 'being in the zone' and that's exactly what he's talking about: having sheer and utter focus on the task at hand. There's no better mindset to have when trying to achieve something then that. We have to stop worrying about how we are being perceived, we have to forget about what we are doing later and we have to focus on being in the moment. As Eric Thomas explains; the only way most people are able enter this mode is by experiencing a near death experience (such as an asthma attack). Many, many years ago it was easier for people to understand this concept because they were faced with death every single day. Why is only the 'special few' able to be successful? It's because they were willing to do anything (and i mean anything) to achieve their success.
I had the utmost pleasure of meeting Eric Thomas in 2013 at a VIP speaking event in London during his UK Tour. I watched him do his thing on stage and then a lucky few were able to have dinner, meet the man himself and take some pictures. I never really do 'celebrity' events but I just had to meet this guy and i was glad that i did. We spoke for a good few minutes and even exchanged some gifts. When i got home my Dad asked 'so, was he good? Did he inspire you?' And i replied, 'Well yeah but i was already motivated by him. What I got from meeting him was that he was just like any other person. All he did was work that little bit harder, that little bit smarter and achieved his success by himself'. Will Smith once said that success is not this esoteric, elusive things that only the special among us can achieve and now i completely agree with that statement after meeting this guy. Eric Thomas was the same person 24/7....are you?
Find out WHO you are and stick to it. Remember that anyone can be successful but first you must find out what success means to you. Once you know what you want to achieve, go and get it. Forget about what others think. Forget about if it fits in with society. Imagine that success is just as important as your next breath and I'm sure that things will start to change for the better. It certainly did for me.
