Reaching out for help, let alone investing in someone’s services, can be daunting. However many people fail to reach their full potential because they do not seek guidance and support. There are many people in this world who have been through or still going through the same experiences that you are going through yet people still miss the point of asking for help.
Many of our coaches have been through the same process of hiding away and trying to deal with everything alone but it wasn’t until we reached out for support that we overcame our challenges and flourished. Because of this, we now dedicate our lives to helping others realising that there is a need for guidance and coaching.
The main reason for seeking advice (in this case a career coach) is due to a change. Whether individuals have been made redundant, want to a different career or feel stuck in their position; it’s all about change.
Career coaches are people who help guide, motivate and inspire individuals to gain more clarity in their direction and help figure out what it is they want to do as well as how to go about it. But there are so many coaches out there, which begs the question; Which One Do I Choose?
Choosing a Career Coach
Now of course we wouldn’t be writing this if we didn’t think we were up to the task. However we are not here to convince you into anything because that’s not what coaching is about. Coaching helps guide individuals by giving them the information they need and providing insightful questions for the individual to make their own decision.
Connection: When seeking a career coach, you want to make sure you are able to connect with them and build a relationship. One of the best ways to do this is through a free consultation, which is why the majority of coaches offer this. This is for the coach too as we have had clients come on board who we know we can’t coach for a number of reasons. Even though we want to help everyone, there are some people who require a different service than what we offer and therefore we will happily forward him or her onto someone who CAN help.
Accreditation: Even though we have a number of qualified members at Life Step Management in various qualifications; we still believe that being qualified isn’t ‘essential’. Just like anything in life, all that matters is getting the job done. Many coaches will boast about their accreditation but what’s most important is the feedback and results they get from their clients. Don’t get me wrong, accreditation is important, especially in courses because it shows the work you have put in and knowledge you have but remember it’s how you apply it, which counts.
Probably THE most important aspect to consider when choosing a career coach! Is the coach or coaching company passionate about helping others? Do they believe in the potential of other people? Many coaches begin their coaching journey because they fancied a change of career or got sucked into a franchise type business by their friend but does this truly represent their passion for helping others? We believe a coach is someone who is so passionate about helping other people that they dedicate their entire life to serving others in their every day life. Our range of coaches include individuals who are parents, respite foster carers, home-dads, youth mentors and people who have had to overcome very difficult times in their lives and want to give back. When choosing a coach, just make sure that they are there to help you and don’t just want your custom.
So there you have it. Some simple things you need to look out for when investing in a coach. Remember an investment is something that you do now that you will benefit from many times in the future. There are many fantastic coaches out there, you just need to make sure you find the right one for you.
